CONTRACT INKED FOR POM-MILNEBAY ROAD

The Government of Papua New Guinea inked a contract with the Global Constructions Limited this week for the road connecting the nation’s capital from Milne Bay via Central Province.

Under the Marape-Basil Government’s signature program ‘Connect PNG,’ Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae signed the contract on the State’s behalf.

The road contract is valued K38.5 million out of of K164 million earmarked for this intercity road network. The Australian Government-through the Transport Sector Support Program (TSSP), is funding this road project for a five-year period.

On January 16, 2022, Prime Minister, James Marape announced a K1.4 billion package for his rural development agenda which features various a network of road infrastructure countrywide.

In a press statement, the Government House (GG’s Office) said Sir Bob executed the road contract for the long-term maintenance of the Magi Highway in Central Province to Milne Bay Province.

It said the maintenance would cover Goilanai Bridge along Magi Highway to Milne Bay’s Gadaisu.

The company representatives Neil Nakikus who is the General Manager and Managing Director Brad Sleader signed the contract before the Governor-General. The Secretary for Works Department, David Wereh witnessed the signing at the Government House.
