SOE SOUGHT FOR ALOTAU
Local Alotau Charles Abel is seeking a declaration from the Cabinet to subject his district and entire Milne Bay province to a State of Emergency.
Mr Abel told media that the proposed SoE would help contain lawlessness in the province and, restore peace and normalcy.

The once-a-peaceful town was under siege last week. That was as a result of a gun battle and burning down of a single quarter belonging to police.

Sketchy reports on the ground say police intervened when criminals started looting shops and destroying properties.
The police intervention caused the criminals to respond with gun battle.
In addition, police report say criminals went to the barracks and burnt down the houses.
EMTV reports that 14 families are now homeless.
“They are seeking refuge at the Town Police Station,” EMTV reported.
A police reinforcement unit is in Alotau.
