WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2021 LAUNCHED
NCD Governor Powes Parkop today launched week-long activities to commemorate the World Environment Day 2021 after the walk for environment at Ela Beach. https://pngsun.com/2020/04/07/plastics-a-menace-to-waste-management-environment/
Governor Parkop led the walk. UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ed Vrikic, Port Moresby Nature Park’s David Thompson, CEPA and NCDC management and staff joined the walk. Along the way, they took turns in trees planting.

Its theme is #GenerationalRestoration.

Regular participants of the Walk and Yoga for Life and guests observed Covid-19 protocols during your walk.
The streets of Port Moresby turned green this morning. That was with residents in green dancing and walking to further awareness protecting and restoring the environment.

STAKEHOLDERS
Active City Development program in partnership with key stakeholders will host the celebrations on Saturday 05, June. They will host it at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium from 9am to 2pm.
The World Environment Day and World Ocean Day activities are taking place through NCDC in partnership key stakeholders. They include Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, Hon. Wera Mori. Other stakeholders comprise of CEPA, CCDA, UNDP, National Forest Authority, and other partners.

OBJECTIVES
They are promoting it as a catalyst for change and to highlight the global crisis that everyone is facing. The purpose of the events and activities is to promote environmental awareness specifically in Port Moresby.

WORLD OCEAN DAY
Additionally, Active City’s Walk and Yoga for Life will commence from Murray Barracks and finish at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Sunday. That is in honour of World Ocean Day to promote marine and ocean wellness.

Further, the participants will not only walk again next Sunday for the state of the earth and for the environment. But, that is with hopes that everyone will take practical steps now. Thus, that is towards protecting our planet but specifically for the ocean, marine life and coral reefs that are under threat.

There will be a short programme at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium with speeches by dignitaries and performances. Additionally, there will be a community dance. Students will recite poetry for ocean-wellness awareness. The walk is open for everyone to attend. Please wear a blue t-shirt.
