PNG TO OPEN COVID-19 ISOLATION CENTRE

The preparation of NCD Covid-19 Centre for treatment and isolation at the Rita Flynn Complex has made remarkable progresses.

And, the facility in Port Moresby is much closer to its opening for public use.

However,  the procurement challenges of drugs and consumables has delayed the opening of the Rita Flynn Isolation centre.

NCDC, NCD Provincial Health Authority and the United Nations have supported and funded the facility.

Additionally, NDOH, the Government, business houses and others have contributed efforts and materials to make it reality.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop wants multi-partners to prepare Rita Flynn Centre, and all other six selected  hospitals and clinics on time.

“They should be ready for Covid-19 rapid testing before the 14-day State of Emergency. It ended on April 5th,” he said.

The Parliament extended the SoE by two more months, he said.

“I am giving a direction now that we put all effort to have the centre ready. Thus, it will to be able to accept a small number of patients who contract the virus.”

“We cannot delay any further,” said Mr Parkop.

He is the chairman of NCD Covid-19 Task Force Response Team.

“Therefore, I have asked St John Ambulance and POM General Hospital to  support NCDPHA have this capacity prepared.”

“Both are technical experts in prehospital care and as medical experts .”

“Despite, I commend efforts by our members of taskforce and other key partners thus far.”
