CITY DRAINAGE SYSTEM IMPROVED

The National Capital District Commission (NCDC) is improving the major drainages in the city to address smooth flow of traffic during bad weathers.

Drainages at ATS roundabout and Waigani Market are amongst others being worked on.

Acting City Manager, Ravu Frank urged city residents to be responsible in discharging their rubbish at appropriate bins, not disposing it of into drains during wet seasons.

Understanding settlement waste generation, he said in most cases drainage pathways were blocked off by rubbish.

He warned that littering was an arrestable offence.

Property owners living near drainages should exercise their civic responsibilities to clear off drain blockages, he said.

If roads and drainages are inundated by bad weathers, call NCDC emergency crew on 3240 700.
