ELIMINATION FOR NCD REGIONAL COUNT BEGINS

The much-awaited elimination rounds for the NCD Regional Count began this morning at 10am with 30th placed independent candidate, Ako KJ Jack.

Jack (box 37) polled 105 votes. His active votes were distributed amongst the surviving 29 candidates in the race.

Election Manager, Kila Ralai said the elimination started already after the Tally Sheets 66A1 were signed off by the candidates’ scrutineers.

Mr Kila said the absolute majority stands at 101,995 plus one (1).

Sitting Governor, Powes Parkop is leading the race with 47,687 whilst the second runner-up, Andy Bawa polled 30,673 votes.

People’s Labour Party’s Wari Vele is on the third spot with 26,601 votes. On the fourth is Melanesian Alliance’s Michael Kandiu with 20,821 votes. Independent candidate, Paul Hitamore is on the fifth with 12,253 votes.

There is a field of 30 candidates who had contested the seat. The seat was the first to have its voters gone to the poll in the country but is now the last seat to declare a winner.

Meanwhile, 11th Parliament will convene tomorrow (Tuesday).
