NEW MEMBER EXPECTED IN MORESBY NORTHWEST

Moresby North-West Electorate in National Capital District will have a new parliamentary member soon.

PNG Electoral Commission expects conclude by-election’s elimination count today. The by-election’s Return of Writ will be due by 2pm today.

The electorate underwent a by-election following the passing of its member late Sir Mekere Morauta in 2020. https://www.thenational.com.pg/moresby-north-west-by-election-counting-begins-after-delay/

The 37th exclusion saw fifth placed Walter Yangomina whose second and third preferences being distributed to the remaining candidates.

The ruling Pangu Party candidate and indigenous Lohia Boe Samuel maintains his lead with 22, 028 votes.   https://pngsun.com/2021/06/13/pangu-candidate-widens-leading-margin/

The top four remaining candidates are:

1. Lohia Boe Samuel (Pangu)-22,028;
2. Joe Tonde (United Labour Party)-10,197;
3. Sengol A Parkop (Independent)-7,780, and;
4. Dr. Thaddeus Kambanei (New Generation Party)- 7,733.

Thus, absolute majority now stands at 26,489.

Further exclusion continues.
