WOMEN, GIRLS LED SMEs SUPPORTED

A big push for entrepreneurship as the NCD SME Centre supports the launch of 10 women’s associations at the 5-Mile Gordons Ridge area in the city.

Putting his weight behind SMEs, NCD Governor Powes Parkop spoke of the importance of creating success stories in the space after 46 years of little action.

“We established the NCD SME Service Centre to assist those who venture into SME business and to make sure they succeed. The strategy is to empower women to utilize their skills and knowledge, support them financially so that they do well in business and create better outcomes for the development of this city and the nation.”

Governor Parkop drew attention to the fact that men have been dominating across all sectors for the last few decades and it is time to provide women with the same opportunity.https://pngsun.com/2021/07/15/port-moresby-plans-participation-at-dubai-expo/

He urged women entrepreneurs to take advantage of the 2016 SME Policy launched by the National Government, which aspires to create a platform for 500,000 SMEs in the country by 2030.
“The big challenge for us now is that we only have eight and a half years before 2030,” said Governor Parkop.

“If we can’t reach the goal of 500,000 SMEs in such a short period, then we must at least look at 50,000 SMEs being fully-functional across the country.”

Addressing hundreds of women gathered at the colorful launch, the NCD Governor asked them to seriously pursue their dream and work hard to transform the SME policy into a reality.

“Women’s participation will benefit our communities and the country as a whole when we empower them,” said Governor Parkop.https://oxfordbusinessgroup.com/analysis/png-promotes-sme-development
